Program Information for Organizations

Walk with Ease is a CDC recommended lifestyle program created by the Arthritis Foundation for the self-management of arthritis pain and symptoms, but may also be beneficial for the prevention and management of other chronic diseases due to the emphasis on physical activity via walking.

Walk with Ease itself is a six-week program that encourages participants to increase their physical activity levels through three self-paced walking sessions each week. Throughout the program participants will also complete activities within the participant guidebook, which will encourage them to better understand their motivations for becoming active, help them set attainable goals, and develop skills to make walking a life long habit.
Osteoarthritis Action Alliance (OAAA) Participant Portal
The OAAA Walk with Ease participant portal allows for delivery of Walk with Ease with minimal burden on organizations referring or delivering the program.
In addition to simplifying the process of collecting and tracking participant data, the portal also can provide an improved participant experience by providing:
  • Simple and Efficient ways of connecting to the WWE participant guidebook
  • A weekly email series to help keep on track with program activities
  • A place to track daily and weekly walking minutes
  • Encouragement to set and update weekly walking goals based on recent activities

Enhanced Program Delivery
On top of the standard program features, the ISU Physical Activity and Health Promotion Lab is also offering additional program features to support the process of becoming more physically active.

Currently the program is evaluating the use of Telephonic Motivational-Interviewing based Health Coaching to support program outcomes. Designed to help individuals draw out their own motivations for becoming more active, and the barriers that stand in their way, trained student health coaches help collaboratively develop strategies to support the development and long term sustainability of new walking routines.

The U-TuRN-CHPcommunity collaboration is always looking for opportunities to offer Walk with Ease programming in a variety of settings. If your community or organization is interested in offering the program, please contact WalkwithEase@iastate.edu for more information on getting started!
